Flower Show History by Martin Gwynn

The club sponsors a flower show every year. The first show was in June 1961 at the old 1st National Bank building .  A co-sponsoring lumber company sent carpenters at noon on Saturday--as soon as the bank closed--to assemble the shelves. There were 63 exhibitors. The show was moved downstairs the following year. In 1984 there were 246 exhibitors. Between 1967 and 1979 it was in the Moose Hall's basement. One year it was at St. Matthews Cathedral because there was a wedding at the Moose Hall. It was cancelled in 1978 due to a devastating hail storm, which shredded all the plants. The annual August Flower Show is now held in the Albany County Public Library.

Muriel Forney proudly shows off her winning African Violet at the club's 2002 Flower Show.
